Charles S. Duncan was born in 1922, in South Carolina. He was the son of Charlie Olin Duncan and Viola Anderson Duncan. Duncan served in Company B, 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Armored Division, as a Private during World War II.
Pvt Duncan was declared Missing in Action on July 27, 1944, in the vicinity of Quibou, France. He was engaged in a combat operation against three German tanks while aboard an M8 Greyhound armored car. He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and sacrifices.
