Robert Leroy Keele was born on October 3, 1923, in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. He was the son of Harrison Richmond Keele and Florence L. Hinkley Keele. He enlisted in the service on December 23, 1940.

Robert served in the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 3, 1944, during the liberation of Pont Farcy in France. PFC Keele is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
