John J. Farrell, Jr. of Arlington, MA, 8 November 1944. Son of the late John J. Farrell and Elizabeth (Harrington) Farrell of Cambridge and Arlington. Brother of Barbara (Farrell) Wilson of Norwood and Rosemary Farrell of Norwood. Uncle of Nancy J. Wilson of Lexington; Mark F. Wilson of West Dennis; Susan (Wilson) McQuaid of Norwood; Michael J. Wilson of London, UK; and John L. Wilson of Harvard. SSGT Farrell graduated from Arlington High School and entered Boston College, Class of 1944. In January, 1943 during his junior year at BC, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. A member of the 28th Infantry Division, he saw combat action in France, Belgium, and Germany in 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was killed in action and MIA in the Battle of the Huertgen Forest, Germany on 8 Nov 1944. His remains were located in Kommerscheidt, Germany on 24 September 2008 and were sent to the U.S. Army Central Identification Laboratory in Hawaii for positive identification. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Church, Nichols St., Norwood, MA on 30 Apr 2010 at 10 AM Burial with Military Honors will occur after Mass at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
