Nathan Edward Marks was born on January 3, 1921, in Oak Hill, Jackson County, Ohio. He was the son of Issie Marx and Mae Elizabeth Heading Marks.

Nathan served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 8, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. PFC Marks is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
