Edmund served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 5, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. TSgt Okoniewski is now buried in the Polish National Catholic Church Cemetery, Blackstone, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA.
