Joseph Miller Shaw was born on August 28, 1921, in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland. He was the son of John LaMotte Shaw Sr. and Mary Ruthella Witter Shaw. He enlisted in the Army on July 1, 1943.
Joseph served in the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 7, 1944, during the liberation of Vire, France. PFC Shaw is now buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, USA.
