Comments:

Ralph William Freiberg was born on April 25, 1911. He was the son of Edmund Henry Freiberg and Melinda Sophia Bertha Deters Freiberg of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

He graduated from Caledonia High School and the University of Minnesota. At the time of his enlistment in the RAF, he was associated with the Commercial Credit Company of San Antonio, Texas. He enlisted in the RAF because he was too old for the US Army Air Corps. He received his preliminary training in California and went to England.

Ralph was assigned to the 121st Eagle Squadron of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a Pilot Officer. In the spring of 1942, Pilot Officer Freiberg was expected to transfer to American forces. On May 4, 1942, aboard the Spitfire Vb P8794, while on a mission escorting Bostons to Le Havre, he failed to return to his home base and was listed as missing.
