George F. Setzer served as a Civilian with the Quartermaster Corps during World War II. After the fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942, George was among the 10,000 to 12,000 Americans forced on a brutal 60-mile march, resulting in thousands of deaths from starvation, dehydration, and abuse. Survivors faced further suffering at Camp O'Donnell, where overcrowding, malnutrition, and disease claimed an additional 1,500 to 2,300 American lives. Many endured continued hardship in other camps or forced labor.
George was among the American civilians who lost their lives in captivity on May 13, 1942. He is now buried in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines.
