Donald Browning Colbert was born on June 5, 1923, in Virginia. He was the son of E. W. Colbert. He enlisted in the service on March 10, 1943. He served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Corporal and Tail Gunner of B-17 #42-102570 during World War II.
On September 8, 1944, during a bombing mission over Ludwigshafen, Germany, Colbert was killed in action when his B-17 #42-102570 was hit by enemy fire. Cpl Colbert is now buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA. Donald B. Colbert's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 24, in the top left wing (section A).
