Lamar Q. Coleman was born on August 1, 1919, in Louisiana. He was the son of Lamar Coleman Sr. and Hazel V. Malone Coleman. He served in the 600th Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner of B-17 #44-83276 during World War II.
On April 8, 1945, during a bombing mission targeting Derben, Germany, B-17 #44-83276 was struck by anti-aircraft flak. The explosions damaged engines #1 and #2, and the fuselage broke in half. The aircraft crashed near Krusemark, close to Plauen, Germany. Tragically, nine of the crew members were killed in action and only one survived.
Sgt Coleman was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Arlington Cemetery, Homer, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, USA. Lamar Q. Coleman's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 2 (center), on Butterfly 18, in the bottom left wing (section C).
