Norman Keith Lovingfoss was born on November 26, 1923, in Sidney, Champaign County, Illinois. He was the son of Kenneth B. Lovingfoss and Madge Marie Fisher Lovingfoss. He served in the 602nd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator of a B-17 Flying Fortress during World War II.

On November 10, 1944, while participating in a bombing mission targeting an airfield in Cologne, Germany, his B-17 Flying Fortress was struck by intense anti-aircraft fire (flak) shortly after releasing its bombs.

2Lt Lovingfoss was fatally wounded during this attack and succumbed to his injuries before the aircraft could return to base. He is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. Norman K. Lovingfoss' name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 2 (center), on Butterfly 6, in the top right wing (section B).
