Elvin R. Pritchard served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Radio Operator of B-17 #42-30576 during World War II.
On January 17, 1944, during a training flight, the aircraft experienced engine fires that necessitated an emergency crash landing in a wheat field approximately 1.5 miles southwest of Martin, South Dakota. The crash resulted in the deaths of all crew members.
SSgt Pritchard is now buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, USA. Elvin R. Pritchard's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 23, in the top left wing (section A).
