Jack Earl Roush was born on December 25, 1923, in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio. He was the son of Earl Clifford Roush and Ruby I. Waddell Roush. He served in the 600th Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Tail Gunner of B-17 #44-83276 during World War II.

On April 8, 1945, during a bombing mission targeting Derben, Germany, B-17 #44-83276 was struck by anti-aircraft flak. The explosions damaged engines #1 and #2, and the fuselage broke in half. The aircraft crashed near Krusemark, close to Plauen, Germany. Tragically, nine of the crew members were killed in action and only one survived.

Sgt Roush was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Columbiana County Memorial Park, East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio, USA. Jack E. Roush's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 2 (center), on Butterfly 13, in the bottom right wing (section D).
