Murray Jack Schultz was born on June 22, 1920, in Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He served in the 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier of B-17 #42-107186 nicknamed ''The Ugly Duckling'' during World War II.
On August 4, 1944, during a mission targeting Peenemünde, Germany, the aircraft was struck by enemy anti-aircraft fire (flak) and crashed near Fresendorf Beach, close to Greifswald, Germany. All nine crew members aboard were killed in action.
2Lt Schultz is now buried in the Plymouth Rock Cemetery, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA. Murray J. Schultz's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 3 (right), on Butterfly 23, in the top right wing (section B).
