Felix Hale Tichenor Jr. was born on August 9, 1920, in Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky. He was the son of Felix Hale Tichenor and Margaret Frances "Maggie" Wingfield Tichenor. He was married to Ruth L. Campbell Vierling. He served in the 600th Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomb Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Waist Gunner of B-17 #43-38853 during World War II.

On April 10, 1945, during a bombing mission targeting the Oranienburg area near Berlin, the aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire (flak) and subsequently crashed in Berlin. Tragically, six were killed in action, and four were captured and became prisoners of war.

Sgt Tichenor was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial, Neuville-en-Condroz, Arrondissement de Liège, Liège, Belgium. Felix H. Tichenor's name is inscribed on the Anstey Window Memorial in Panel 2 (center), on Butterfly 13, in the top left wing (section A).
