Adam Gillis served in the US Navy as a Seaman and was assigned to the USS Delaware. He died on October 21, 1843, while stationed in or passing through Menorca during the period when the U.S. maintained a naval presence in the Mediterranean, as part of its early-to-mid 19th century Mediterranean Squadron. He is now buried in the Cementerio Anglo Americano, Maó-Mahón, Provincia de Islas Baleares, Baleares, Spain.
