Lewis H. Schneider was born in 1918, in Smithton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Henry G. Schneider and Sophia Lena Boll Schneider. He served in the 504th Fighter Squadron, 339th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of P-51 Mustang B-10 #42-106641 nicknamed "G'Bye Now" during World War II.

On August 2, 1944, the aircraft was shot down over France while conducting a fighter sweep mission over Saint-Quentin. It had taken off from Station 378 in Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire, UK. Around 20:40, it was struck by anti-aircraft fire and went down near Belval, approximately 1.5 kilometers south of Plessis-de-Roye and 2.5 kilometers south of Lassigny, in the Oise department. The P-51 Mustang was regularly piloted by Lieutenant Richard H. Wilcox.

2Lt Schneider was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France.
