Bernard Ace was born on October 17, 1893, in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. He was the son of George W. Ace and Clara Ace. He was married to Maude Sprowell Ace. He volunteered for the Canadian Army in July 1915. He served in the 14th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regiment), as a Private during World War I.

Pvt Ace was Killed in Action on August 5, 1916. He is now buried in the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground Transport Farm, Zillebeke, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
