Bertram Bowron was born on October 9, 1887, in Amble, Northumberland Unitary Authority, Northumberland, England. He was the son of Joseph Bowron and Mary Howey Bowron, who immigrated and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1896. He served in the 7th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (British Columbia Regiment), as a Private during World War I.
Pvt Bowron was killed by enemy shell fire while dressing a wounded comrade in a shell hole on November 10, 1917, in Belgium. His name is memorialized on the Menin Gate Memorial, Panel #28 in Ypres, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium. He also has a cenotaph in the Mountain View Memorial Park, Lakewood, Pierce County, Washington, USA.
