William Everett Brewster was born on April 27, 1895, in Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama. He was the son of Sterrett Grant "Sam" Brewster Sr. and Ida Minnie Dalton Harvey. He served in the 116th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment), as a Private during World War I.
