John Bryson Cascadden was born on September 9, 1889, in Leeds, Benson County, North Dakota. He was the son of Thomas Talbot Cascadden and Adeline Truax Cascadden. He enlisted in the service on January 4, 1915. He served in the 49th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment), as a Lieutenant during World War I.

Lt Cascadden was Killed in Action on June 3, 1916, in Belgium. His name is memorialized on the Menin Gate Memorial, Panel #28 in Ypres, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
