Clarence Daniel Kaelin was born on March 23, 1889, in Leetsdale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Blasius Kaelin and Amanda Ickes Kaelin. He served in the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment), as a Private during World War I.
Pvt Kaelin was Killed in Action on May 2, 1915, in Belgium. His name is memorialized on the Menin Gate Memorial, Panel #18 in Ypres, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium. He also has a cenotaph in Sewickley Cemetery, Sewickley, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.
