George Kenley Liddell was born on March 29, 1895, in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. He was the son of Elizabeth Ann Kenley Liddell and Alexander Liddell. He had been working in Belleview, Illinois, when in 1916 he traveled with friends into Canada on a vacation trip, during which they decided to enlist. He joined the Canadian forces in Winnipeg in August 1916, entering the 190th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (known as the Little Black Devils). Later, he was transferred to the 8th Canadian Battalion, D Company, 14th Platoon Lewis Machine Gun Section. In May 1917, he went overseas, first stationed in England at Kent, and later in France and Ypres.
Pvt Liddell was Killed in Action on November 10, 1917, in Belgium. He is now buried in Poelcapelle British Cemetery, Poelkapelle, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium. His body remained unidentified until 1926, when it was recognized through a letter from his mother.
