John Franklin Stahler was born on April 2, 1914, in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Meta Mathilde Stahler. He was the husband of Verna Irene Gerber Stahler. He served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Stahler was Killed in Action on November 30, 1944, during the liberation of Seingbouse, France. He is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Département de la Moselle, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph in the Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, USA.
