Roy Kenneth Kreiser was born on June 6, 1925, in Lebanon, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Leroy Russell Kreiser and Edna Deborah Yiengst Kreiser. He graduated from high school and was employed as a stock clerk at the McCrory 5 & 10 store in Lebanon before entering military service. He registered for the draft on June 30, 1942, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 6, 1942, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was subsequently assigned to Company B, 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, and deployed overseas in May 1943.

The 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion entered active service on March 25, 1942, at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, as part of the 82nd Airborne Division. It supported airborne operations in Sicily, after which Company B was attached to the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment and went on to participate in the invasions of Salerno and Anzio, later regrouping in Northern Ireland in December 1943 before moving to Quorndon, England, in February 1944 for further training. On D-Day, the 82nd Airborne Division sustained heavy casualties, including Pvt Kreiser. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Département du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France.
