TSgt Robert E. Warner, mechanic of the B-24 42-7581 “Devil Dream”, took off from Station 125, Bungay, UK on a bombing mission to La Rochelle. The plane was evacuated at 1210, the crew bailing out at 11000 feet. He landed with a fractured ankle but managed to escape back to the UK through the Pyrénées/Spain/Gibraltar escape route, arriving back on May 11th 1944.
