B-24 'Star Valley' (42-100181) Monument
TSgt Bernard A. Ohler, radio operator of the B-24 Liberator 42-100181 “Star Valley”, took off from station 115, Shipdham, Norfolk, UK on a bombing mission over the Tours Parçay-Meslay airfield. They were shot down by Fw-190 fighters at 1042. The bullets clipped one of their wings off, sending them into an uncontrollable spin from which only three crew members managed to bail out, of which only one survived to make it back to the UK. Originally interred in Europe his remains were repatriated to US soil on April 7, 1949.
