Pilot of B-17 “Hell’s Below” that took off from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK on 29 May 1943 to bomb Rennes, France. The plane was shot down at 1634 by flak and German fighters. LT Workman survived the crash and was taken prisoner at Stalag Luft 3 in Sagan-Silesia. He was from Newberry, South Carolina and a graduate of the Citadel.
