When Joseph T. Wickler was born in May 1894 in Illinois, his father, Frederick, was 61 and his mother, Anna, was 42. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in HQ Company, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Missing In Action on November 9, 1918 and is memorialized at Tablets of the Missing, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
