When Amos S. Hardin was born on February 6, 1897, in Whitfield, Georgia, his father, Eli, was 27 and his mother, Mary, was 24. He had seven brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company H, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 12, 1918 and is now buried in Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.
