When Waldron S. Johnson was born on July 25, 1894, in South Dakota, his father, Charles, was 44 and his mother, Maria, was 31. He had two brothers and two sisters. He entered the military service in Montana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company C, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
