When Elijah Mullins was born on September 4, 1889, in Kentucky, his father, John, was 39 and his mother, Matilda, was 30. He had one brother and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 23, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a marker in Johnetta Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Rockcastle County, Kentucky, USA.
