When Emory Speer Clark was born in 1897 in Jones, Georgia, his father, John, was 43 and his mother, Georgia, was 32. He had four brothers and three sisters. He entered the service on April 27, 1917 in Georgia. Embarked for overseas service in January, 1918 he was attached to Company E, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, with which unit he engaged in several battles. He was wounded in the battle of Soissons, and died in an American Hospital in France on July 25, 1918. He is now buried in Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PVT H CLARK.
