When Grover C. Mahoney was born in November 1892, his father, James, was 44 and his mother, Katherine, was 35. He had six brothers and three sisters. He entered the military service in Florida. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company I, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on July 19, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
