When William Henry Hosford was born on December 19, 1895, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, his father, Alexander, was 44 and his mother, Thea, was 35. He had eight siblings. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company I, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle but declared "Missing" on July 18, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
