When Wencil "James" Shaker was born on August 13, 1893, his father, Frantisek, was 27 and his mother, Marie, was 18. He had three brothers and three sisters. He entered the military service in Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a pvt in Company B, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle but declared ""Missing"" on July 18, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. He also has a marker in Bohemian Brotherhood Cemetery, Hillsboro, Vernon County, Wisconsin, USA.
