When Earl G. Bain was born on April 5, 1899, his father, John, was 42 and his mother, Emma, was 41. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 at the age of 19 in France and is now buried in Wayland Methodist Church Cemetery, Wayland, Henry County, Iowa, USA. His headstone shows he is a Private.
