LeRoy A. Pierce was born in 1901, the son of David and Mary E. Ashworth Pierce. He had two brothers and four sisters. He entered the military service in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company F, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 19, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
