From "For God and Country," published by the Edward H. Monahan Post of the American Legion, Sioux City, Iowa, 1923:

World War I casualty. Private 1st Class, Co., F, 16th Infantry. Wounded in action at Soissons at died in Hospital No. 27, at Tours, France. Two citations were awarded Pvt. Stukas for bravery in action, and for meritorious service. These citations were ordered by Generals Pershing and Summerall. Buried in October, 1920, at Laurel, Nebraska. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Stukas, Laurel, Nebraska. End. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as PFC W STUKKAS. He is now buried in Laurel Cemetery, Laurel, Cedar County, Nebraska, USA.
