Jesse Hotz was born on October 9, 1899 in Martin County, Indiana. He was the son of Robert and Katherine Hotz. He was a farmer before he entered the service on October 3, 1917 in Shoals, Ind. He was sent to Camp Taylor, Ky., with Company G, 151st Infantry and later transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. He embarked from Camp Merritt, N. J. on June 15, 1918 and was assigned to Company K, 162nd Infantry; later to Company F, 16th Infantry. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 24, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. He has a cenotaph located in West Union Cemetery, Martin County, Indiana, USA.
