Walter “Walt” Augustiak was born in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company I, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action in 1918 in France but his current burial place is unknown. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as a Private.
