When James Stillman Grover was born on June 12, 1895, in Moody, Missouri, his father, James, was 32 and his mother, Sarah, was 26. He entered the military service in Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company K, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division.
