When Frank H. Wolfe was born in August 1899 in Ashland, Wisconsin, his father, Henry, was 25 and his mother, Ella, was 22. He had four brothers. He enlisted in April, 1917, at the age of 18. He served with Company F, 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. He sailed overseas with Gen. Pershing's Regulars. He was wounded in action in France on Feb. 17, 1918. He was the First Ashland soldier wounded overseas and then Killed in action but declared "Missing" on July 20, 1918. His name is memorialized at Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
