When Arlow Lester Griffith was born in February 1897 in Greene, Ohio, his father, Henry, was 35 and his mother, Julia, was 37. He had four brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on July 20, 1918 and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.
