When Hett Phillips was born in May 1896 in Tennessee, his father, General, was 46 and his mother, Alice, was 28. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1918 and is now buried in Knoxville National Cemetery, Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, USA. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument in Company H of his unit.
