"Son of Frederick and Lena Z. Hilt; born February 17, 1918, Lafayette, Ind. Employe of Monon Railroad. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army January 16, 1917, Columbus Barracks, Ohio. Sent to El Paso, Tex.; assigned to Company C, 7th Infantry. Transferred to Gettysburg, Pa. Overseas October 31, 1917. Assigned to Company H, 18th Infantry, 1st Division. Killed in action July 20, 1918, Chateau-Thierry, France. Buried near Soissons, France. "
