Leroy Tout was born on January 22, 1889 in Wayne County, Indiana. Leroy entered the military service on September 31, 1917 and after training embarked for Europe from New York on June 11, 1918. He was assigned to Company H, 18th United States Infantry, 1st Division. Leroy was gassed at Soissons, France and was buried in the American Cemetery near Paris. His remains were later interred in Wayne County. The Leroy Tout Post 338 American Legion of Dublin was named in his honor. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Toup.
