"DUFENDACH, MARK CHRISTOPHER - CORPORAL.. Son of Edward H. and Lydia C. Dufendach; born May 7, 1898, Huntingburg, Dubois County, Ind. Printer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 16, 1917, Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Sent to Douglas, Ariz.; assigned to Company 1, 18th Infantry. Overseas with the 1st Division in June, 1917. Served in Sommerville Sector. Died July 18, 1918, in Field Hospital No. 12 from wounds received in battle of Soissons. Buried in Grave 22, of American plot, French Cemetery, Commune of Pierrefonds, France."

He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. His surname is inscribed on the Buzancy monument as Duffendach. He also has a marker in Fairmount Cemetery, Huntingburg, Dubois County, Indiana, USA.
