Born on March 7, 1918, Jacques Riddel was serving as a co-pilot on his B-17F "Flying Fortress," named "Sky Queen," when it encountered enemy fire as was shot down over Opende in The Netherlands while returning from a mission over Kassel, Germany, where there was an airplane factory. He had recently arrived in England to begin combat flights. The picture of Riddel was taken in Wyoming, just one month before his death.
