Born in 1921, Kenneth Dutton was serving as the observer aboard a B-17F "Flying Fortress" named the "Sky Queen" when it encountered enemy fire over The Netherlands and crashed near Opende. It was returning from a bombing raid over Kassel, Germany, where there was an aircraft factory. Dutton actually opted to go on this fatal mission so that he would have the same of missions as the rest of the crew and so that they could rotate back to the United States together. He is buried alongside three of his fellow crew members.
